Biography

Patrick Anderson is professor in structure and rheology of complex fluids. He studied Applied Mathematics at the Eindhoven University of Technology with Prof. Dr. Arnold A. Reusken as his advisor. In 1999 he received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the same university with Prof. dr. ir. Han E.H. Meijer as his advisor. Following a year break at Océ Technologies he joined the Polymer Technology group.

His present interests include structure development during flow, interfacial phenomena, microfluidics, and polymer processing.

Distributive mixing examples

Below a number of tools are downloadable to analyse prototype mixing flows. Matlab is needed to run these examples, where in some cases precomputed mapping matrices are prvodided, while in other cases, like the time-periodic sine flow, also the option is made for the user to build matrices.
Lid driven cavity (download files)

The lid-driven cavity flow is one of the classical examples of simple flows that may lead to chaotic advection. This relatively simple script makes it possbile to move top and bottoms walls. The intensity of segragation is computed on the fly.

Details are available in P.G.M. Kruijt, O.S. Galaktionov, P.D. Anderson, G.W.M. Peters, H.E.H. Meijer, Analyzing mixing in periodic flows by distribution matrices: Mapping method, AIChE Journal, 47(5), 1005-1015, (2001)

Journal bearing (download files)

This example gives the user almost complete freedom to create an initial input for the concentration distribution.

Details are available in O.S. Galaktionov, P.D. Anderson, G.W.M. Peters, Structure development during chaotic mixing in the journal bearing flow, Phys. Fluids, 14(9), 3009-3017, (2002)

Kenics static mixer (download files)

Details are available in O.S. Galaktionov, P.D. Anderson, G.W.M. Peters, H.E.H. Meijer, Analysis and optimization of Kenics mixers, International Polymer Processing, XVIII(2), 138-150, (2003)

Time-periodic sine flow (download files)
This example provides all scripts to create the matrices, but also to study the effect of T on mixing.

Details are available in M.K. Singh, M.F.M. Speetjens, P.D. Anderson, Eigenmode analysis of scalar transport in distributive mixing, Phys. Fluids, 21, 093601, (2009)
