Inter-faculty organization.Given the principally multidisciplinary character of the research in Polymer Technology, the group is organized in an inter-faculty cooperation: CPC, the Centre for Polymers and Composites, founded in May 15, 1989, between the faculties of Mechanical Engineering (Prof.dr.ir. H.E.H. Meijer) and Chemical Engineering (Prof.dr. P.J. Lemstra). In September 10, 1995 CPC was extended to EPL, Eindhoven Polymer Laboratories (where also, a.o. organic chemistry (Prof.dr. E.W. Meijer) and polymerization processes (Prof.dr.ir. A.L. German) were incorporated), in order to accomplish the complete "chain-of-knowledge", necessary to successful developments in polymeric systems. The nation-wide Research School PTN (Polymer Technology in the Netherlands), that originated from EPL and that received both the Stimulans grant (1 Mfl.) in 1995 and the grant from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (5 Mfl.) in 1996, obtained official recognition by the KNAW, in 1998. The LTI-3P (Leading Technological Institute, Polymers and Polymer Processing), now named DPI (Dutch Polymer Institute) was selected as one of the TTI' s (Technological Top Institutes), here called Research Institutes. "Eindhoven Polymer Town" was established. "Eindhoven Materials Town" could now be realized in the future. Stimulated by the presence of DPI (> 50% of its total budget of 20 Mfl. per year during 8 years is reserved to stimulate the polymer research in Eindhoven) (from which budget 2 Mfl./year is invested in the MaTe group). Moreover, stimulated by the selection of the Metals TTI (NIMR) (for our group MaTe 1.5 Mfl./year) and, finally, by the chances that are present since TNO-Industry decided to select our Campus as its future residence. Close cooperation already is under preparation, especially in equipment sharing. |
